Winners in Mascot Contest

Kelsey Hazzan of Klein Collins
High School placed first in the inaugural
Capital One Houston High School Mascot
Challenge. Kelsey appears as
Tootsie the Tiger when she portrays
the school’s mascot. Kelsey is a twelfth grade student who plans to
attend Texas Tech or Arizona State to study interior design. She is
an athlete who played volleyball, still competes in basketball, and
will throw the discus during the spring track season. In the
summers, she works as a lifeguard and swimming teacher. This fall
she works at Hollister, a clothing store in the Woodlands Mall. The
$5,000 first-place prize was donated to the Klein Collins athletic
department. |

Brittany Leach
of Klein High School was the first runner-up, winning $4,000 for
Klein High’s athletic department. Brittany’s mascot persona is as
Boomer the Bearkat. Brittany was a
theater arts student in intermediate school who describes herself as
“out there - a having fun kind of girl.” She chose to try out for
her school’s mascot as a way to become involved and have fun. As
Boomer, she has been interviewed twice on Channel 2, KPRC.
